Adobe Illustrator to Vinyl Cutter

From Adobe Illustrator:

  • New File:
    • Set file units to inches
    • File width is the width of your roll of vinyl minus 1 inch (or less)
    • File height is dependent on your project.
    • Create your file. Remember, the vinyl cutter will only be cutting vector paths, and does not recognize colors, textures gradients etc. Multi-colored designs will require cutting multiple colors of vinyl separately. Here are some guidelines:
      • Make shapes in solid colors with a stroke weight of zero
      • For type, choose Type → Create Outlines before sending
      • For heat-transfer vinyl mirror all content before sending
  • To Print:
    • Turn machine on and load chosen vinyl, for instructions see:

    • *Be sure to check the Force settings, the the guide above
    • Go to File → Print
    • In Printer: choose “Adobe PDF” (this will make the preview appear)
    • In Printer: choose “Roland GS-24”
    • Go To Setup… (lower left corner)
      • choose “Continue”
      • Go To Preferences
        • Click Get From Machine - this will pull the width of your vinyl from the cutter
        • Click OK to return to setup
      • Click Print to return to Illustrator print dialog
    • In Illustrator Print dialog:
      • Check Ignore Artboards on
      • in Media Size: choose “User Size”
      • in Placement - click lower left box to set cut job in lower left corner
      • Hit Print
